Meteor reaches 1.0!!!!

Meteor (the framework that everybody loves to hate [along with Node JS]) has hit 1.0.

We've been playing around with it since 0.5 and it's incredible to see how far it has become!

Free SSL with CloudFlare

On Monday CloudFlare launched a free service called Universal SSL for all their customers! Free SSL essentially.

Before now you had to worry about buying or generating certificates and using a third party CA like Thawte to sign them. Now with one-click you can enable it.

Remember to still encrypt the traffic between CloudFlare and your origin server(s).  If you need some help then reach out to us.

Only supported by "modern browsers". Any browser that is at least 7 years old. If you're browser is not supported then it's probably time to upgrade anyway!

Where to host your web apps? US or EU?

With better and more responsive front-end tech landing everyday (Meteor's "Latency Compensation" for eg.), latency is becoming less important.

Notice we said "less". It still counts for overall page/app load speeds and general snappiness.

 (These factors still heavily influence your site's quality score and ultimately your cost-per-click if running AdWord campaigns.)

But it doesn't stop us from choosing the best and quickest locations to "host" for South African based businesses. (Local is lekker but the likes of Cloud Africa can't really compete just yet so we're excluding them for now.)

In our experience, RTT or ping times from South Africa are approximately 200ms to Europe and 300ms odd to the USA.

That makes the EU virtually 50% faster than the States. Good to know... We'll take it!
